Latin: sacer, sacred.
Sacristans prepare the Church for liturgy (Mass, Prayer Services, etc.). There is much to do "behind the scenes" so that each liturgy runs smoothly. Sacristans make sure that the sacred vessel and linens are clean, in good repair and in place for each liturgy. They maintain the candles located throughout the Church. The sacristans ensure that sacred books are in place and are in good condition. The sacristy and the church are cleaned with an eye for detail. Sacristans make sure everything is in its proper place before and after each liturgy. There are several individuals who perform these duties in the parish.
Love in Action
Mother Theresa said, "love has to be put into action, and that action is service." If you feel you might be able to express your love of God and His people by volunteering to serve through the Sacristan Ministry, please call Michael Jones at the parish office at 505.839.7952.
