Immediately adopt a whistle-blower policy, providing no retaliatory actions against persons who report abuse. A possible statement is: "NO retaliation is to be taken against “whistle-blowers” reporting suspected abuse in good faith; on the contrary, all staff and volunteers are encouraged to report ANY suspected abuse."
Report any allegations of abuse to CYFD or law enforcement within 72 hours. Any report received BY you immediately report to ASF (Victim Assistance Coordinator, Schools Superintendent, or Vicar General)
Prohibit adults from being alone with unrelated minors. The exception is confession but with an adult nearby.
Remove all plaques, pictures, and statues of other public recognitions of all known past and present credibly abused. A credibly abused list is at LINK.
Do not refer to survivors as “alleged” but rather as “survivors,” “claimants,” or “survivors of sexual abuse.”
Prominently display the plaque in each ASF and Non-ASF school (St. Michael) stating that abuse of children will not be tolerated; these were distributed and should have been displayed by April 26. If you do not have one, please check w/ Superintendent Donna Illerbrun.
Maintain copies of child protection policies/procedures for at least 50 years.
